ICGP welcomes plan for vaccination of GPs and Practice Teams
GPs and Practice Teams will receive vaccinations in acute hospital and community settings by end of February 2021
Delays in setting up Portal for Registration have been resolved
The Irish College of General Practitioners and the Irish Medical Organisation have announced the vaccination plan for GPs and Practice teams, following agreement with the HSE on 12th January.
The plan will see remaining GPs and their practice teams receive the vaccine at designated nursing homes, acute hospital and community settings during January 2021 and February 2021. Some GPs and their teams have already received the vaccine and others have received appointments.
GPs who have not yet received the vaccination must register via the Vaccination Registration Portal link by close of business on Thursday January 14th and in the case of Nursing Homes, via the email link provided.
Dr Nuala O’Connor, Clinical Lead on COVID-19 with the ICGP said: “We appreciate the natural anxiety of GPs in ensuring GPs and their teams are vaccinated, and there were expectations this portal link would be available on Friday last. These delays have been resolved. We welcome the plan to vaccinate GPs and Practice Teams as agreed with the HSE.”
“GPs and Practice Teams will be vaccinated as quickly as possible.
“The target for completion is the end of February 2021 or hopefully earlier and this will be solely determined by the supply and type of vaccines available.
“GPs and their teams will be critical to the delivery of a successful vaccination programme to the wider population, building on the GPs’ vast experience in previous vaccination campaigns, and their long-established relationship with patients. The COVID-19 vaccination programme will be a mammoth national project and will be rolled out in the coming months.”
