The two-day Annual Conference of the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) is the biggest gathering of GPs in the country. The ICGP is the training and professional body for general practice in Ireland.
The theme of this year’s Conference is “A Healthier Future for General Practice”.
Speakers will cover a range of medical topics of interest, from
- end-of-life decision making in nursing homes,
- the treatment of alcoholism,
- the rise of “superbugs” and what this means for GPs,
- anxiety and depression in children and adolescents,
- asthma in the under 6’s,
- Topics on women’s health.
The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, will officially open the event on Friday May 3rd at 5pm.
The College’s Foundation Lecture will debate the issue of health inequality, led by Dr Austin O’Carroll, the north inner city GP, and campaigner.
The College’s Forum, on the topic “Shaping a Healthier Future for General Practice” will be led by the the chair of the Oireachtas Health Committee, Dr Michael Harty, GP and TD.
