The Irish College of General Practitioners, the professional and training body for General Practitioners in Ireland, has responded to the publication of the Medical Council’s Workforce Intelligence Report .

The report highlights the workforce deficits in the system, the excessive workload experienced by doctors, and the resulting risks attached to patient safety and care.

The Chairman of the Board of the ICGP, Dr John Farrell, said:  “We note the Report, and share the Medical Council’s concerns.

The College will be producing a Discussion Document at its Autumn Conference (October 15th), which we hope will act as a lever to bring all stakeholders together and start a realistic conversation about the critical issue of workforce deficits in the Irish healthcare system.”
